VAN GOGH: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

A 360º digital art exhibition that transports you into the world of Vincent van Gogh.

Have you ever imagined yourself stepping into one of Vincent’s paintings?

Perhaps wandering through the tranquil village of The Starry Night, entranced by the celestial wonder that dances overhead. The swirling cosmos prominently and triumphantly displaying a most radiant Venus. The soothing rustle of olive trees swaying in the breeze harmonizes with the sounds of cicadas and distant owls permeating the air. This scene is where reality, imagination, and artistry seamlessly coalesce to manifest Van Gogh’s vision.

Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience does just that.

Vincent created what would become his most famous work within the constraints of the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum, where he voluntarily stayed for almost a year.

Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience

Step into the world of Vincent van Gogh.

During his confinement at the asylum, Vincent produced some of his most captivating and emblematic artworks, including Irises, A Wheatfield with Cypresses, Still Life: Vase with Irises, Still Life: Vase with Roses, L’Arlesienne (Madame Ginoux), Cypresses, The Bedroom (second and third versions), Blossoming Almond Tree, and 135 additional works, totaling 143. Some of these paintings you will encounter as you embark on a remarkable exploration of the unparalleled universe of Van Gogh.

There is no doubt that Vincent would have marveled at these spectacular exhibitions, eager for the world to witness his vision, his artistry, his passion, and his genius come to life as it does through the Immersive Experience. The Starry Night Van Gogh Immersive Winston Salem

Explore his life, his work, and his secrets as never before through cutting-edge 360-degree digital projections, a one-of-a-kind VR experience, and a uniquely atmospheric light and sound show.

This impactful experience has already thrilled visitors in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle, and Miami. Become completely immersed in the works of art around you and feel the shift in reality as you dive deep into the world created by Van Gogh’s brushstrokes.

Vincent’s brushstrokes illustrate his unique artistic style, marked by dramatic intensity and emotional profundity. He executed each stroke with haste and fervor, demonstrating his exceptional speed as a painter. He was a very fast painter. During the final 70 days of his life, while living in Auvers, he created 76 works, of which 12 were double-sized canvases.

His final painting, Tree Roots, is one of those, measuring 50.0 cm x 100.0 cm.

Tree Roots

This award-winning exhibition invites audiences to step inside Van Gogh’s world through stunning 360° projections, virtual reality, and audio excerpts from his deeply personal letters to his brother Theo. It’s a chance to connect with the emotional depth behind iconic works like “Sunflowers,” “The Starry Night,” and “Café Terrace at Night”—and to understand the man whose genius was only recognized by few before his death on July 29, 1890.

Vincent’s oeuvre consists of over 2000 works and incorporates a diverse range of subjects and styles. Themes of isolation, nature, and human plight are frequently present, often reflecting his sometimes tumultuous interior.

His ability to evoke profound emotions through audacious compositions and unconventional color schemes is demonstrated by works such as The Potato Eaters, The Schoolboy. The Night Café, Sunflowers, The Roulin Family, and Wheatfield with Crows are just a few examples. His commitment to capturing the essence of his subjects, whether they be landscapes, portraits, or still lifes, reveals a deep connection to the world around him.

Van Gogh’s artistic vision has had an enduring impact on the art world, despite, or in spite of, his mental health challenges. It offers a glimpse of his psyche and the socio-cultural context of his time, transcending typical aesthetics. His correspondence, particularly the letters written to his brother Theo, provides us with invaluable insight into his brilliant but sometimes disturbed mind. This, for some, contributes to the appeal.

Van Gogh’s life is part of a broader conversation about mental health, and this exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how creativity can serve as both an outlet for pain and a window into the inner self. His struggles were more than just personal challenges; they were a driving force behind the emotional depth and intensity found in many of his masterpieces. It is important to acknowledge that he only produced one painting during an episode of psychosis. He explains to Theo that the painting, Self-Portrait (F 528 / JH 1780), is “an attempt from when I was ill.”

Vincent’s extensive oeuvre encompasses merely a decade. During that time, it is contended that he sold only one painting, “The Red Vineyard,” which was purchased by Anna Boch for 400 francs during the annual Les XX exhibition in Brussels. Vincent presented six works, where he surprisingly outshone the main attraction, Cézanne.

According to a letter written by Theo, Vincent did sell another painting to a London art dealer in October 1888, and it is likely that he sold additional paintings during his lifetime. He also exchanged paintings with other artists and traded many for food, lodging, paint supplies, or tobacco and alcohol.

While we don’t know with certainty how many more paintings exist, it is reasonable to presume that the ones we are aware of contain some exceptional masterpieces.

May 25, 2021. My first virtual reality experience was from the Atlanta Van Gogh Immersive Experience—a Facebook post…

WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?

OMG! The virtual reality part of the immersive experience had the most profound effect on me.

You are literally walking through the wheatfields and village of Auvers-sur-Oise. You traverse the cobblestone streets of Paris, walk through The Starry Night, and encounter genuine representations of his artworks. You’re greeted by some of the subjects he depicted while strolling past many of the cottages he painted and, of course, fields of sunflowers.

I was quite moved by this experience; it felt as though I was truly immersed in his world alongside him. It was phenomenal.

Fast forward to July 2025, after attending the Winston-Salem opening. Once more, my mind was blown! There was a sense that there was more to explore during this visit. I absorbed this extraordinary experience for almost two hours and could have stayed longer were it not for prior engagements.

The event is both a captivating attraction and an educational experience for those unfamiliar with Vincent’s life.

Less than two weeks prior to the official opening, I decided to visit the Winston-Salem site. The workers graciously permitted me to peek in, and I was surprised by the considerable amount of work remaining. Two weeks later, the project was finalized. Bravo! to everyone involved in the exhibition’s construction, particularly under the sweltering 90+ degree heat!
